The bullet wound wasn’t in John’s shoulder. It was in his chest. Two inches below his collarbone, one half-inch to the left of his sternum. Whoever had shot at John had been aiming to kill, because the little scar was perfectly aligned with John’s heart.

This is FANTASTIC! What a marvelous idea. And when you listen to the podfic, choose the version with the sound effects. The heart-thumping is amazing!

Martin didn’t want a breathtaking romance. He just wanted companionship, someone to cook for and watch telly with, someone to wish him a good flight and be there when he came back and maybe, perhaps, occasionally, be a little proud of him. Or just not consider him completely useless. That was all he wished for, really. He had lost hope it would happen long ago, but now it seemed that he could have a tiny chance. Of course, it only made sense that the only person to show any interest in Martin was a man – he just wasn’t lucky enough for it to be a woman. It was a miracle that he found a human being at all. He wasn’t going to be picky. He wasn’t going to complain.

The best fic I've found in this fandom so far. Lovely, so lovely! I'm usually not into OCs, be they male or female, but this fic is simply amazing because it's about falling in love with a person regardless of their gender. And it's not all daisies and bunnies and fluff, I think it handled the issue pretty well, especially "The Talk" about sexuality between Martin and James. Fantastic!
