Sherlock, oh, Sherlock

... Some time ago I asked about Sherlock Holmes and Jeremy Brett - link.
... Yesterday, I finished reading The Return of Sherlock Holmes - The Adventure of the Empty House and The Adventure of the Norwood Builder are a must-read for all the Holmes/Watson shippers out there!
... And then I stumbled across this Tumblr post - link - which made me want to watch some good old Holmes movies.

So, who do you like as Sherlock Holmes? What movies/series have you seen and consider them worth checking out?

Myself? I like Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch but I understand that the retoolings aren't everybody's cuppa - especially not the "purists'". I also saw Matt Frewer's Holmes movie - which was quite good! - and Christopher Lee's - which was awful, IIRC, his Holmes was a bumbling senile fool. And that's it, I think.

So, what about you?

Marple "Ordeal By Innocence"

What a sad, sad story. I hated the whole family, what a bunch of wankers, seriously. And the way they treated poor Gwenda! Especially the father was a doormat, letting everybody do whatever they wanted. When he asked Gwenda to leave, I wanted her to just slap him and go!

The best character was the nervous professor, Dr. Calgary, played by Julian Rhind Tutt (Edwin in Merlin). I loved the scene where he talked about the foxes and that one slide of his female colleague kept popping up, much to his chagrin. I thought he was the only normal person there.

And I LOL'd when Miss Marple tipped the inspector off where to look for clues and then scurried off in her typical hunched, mischievous way and we went all "Okay, will do. ... O_o Who was that?!"

Aaaaaaaaaand I'm done with Geraldine McEwan's Marple. What a shame. I really loved her in this role.

The Cabin in the Woods

So, I decided to check out out the trailer for The Cabin in the Woods - link - only because Chris Hemsworth was in it.

At first, it looks like a normal horror: a group of friends, a cabin in the woods - you expect a monster coming to eat them, right? Wrong! When the trailer hit the 1min. mark, everything turned upside down and sideways too, for good measure, and I was hooked. Wow. Just wow. I need to see this!
