What I've been reading these days?
Dec. 16th, 2007 04:44 pmI've been incredibly busy these days - mostly work, not much fun and lotsa headaches - so if someone is still waiting for a comment from me, I'm getting there! XP
What I've been reading?
Work-wise... "Rebel Fay" by Barb and J.C. Hendee. Do you know how hard it is to translate a book where you actively dislike one of the main characters? Whenever you come across a scene with this character, you start feeling all jittery and nervous X(
In this book, it's the sage Wynn. She's such a hypocrite and the archetyp of Mary Sue - she is cute, fragile, small - which is emphasized on every page - and super intelligent, she knows almost all the languages and she read almost all the scrolls in the guild's library, in every book a tall, broad-shouldered man falls in love with her and she's so small and fragile next to him and so in need of his protection... I'm gagging here! I mean, Leesil and Magiere had traveled together for years before they met Wynn but suddenly, they turn to her for advice every time they have to make a decision of some sort - I hate it that the authors dumb-ified the two main characters to accommodate her. And what's best? No matter what stupid stunts she does, there is no retaliation, they just pet her on the head and everything's okay. Grr... I'm pissed just thinking of this!
Book-wise... "Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth" by Simon R. Green, the 6th book in his Nightside series. Well, these books are nothing special, book after book the same stuff, but since a friend of mine lent them to me (like a year ago X() I want to finally read it and return it to him! What's the weirdest thing in these books? The fact that there is no emotional involvement. You don't feel for the characters. Life and death mean nothing in these books so you just don't care about the characters at all.
Fanfic-wise... "Five Districts, Five Drugs" by
rei_c. I'm reading the 3rd one at the mo. It's a sorta five-thing Supernatural WINCEST fic and so amazing and original and hot and angsty and painful and...! *runs in circles*
