I've finished watching Matantei Loki Ragnarok and I have rather mixed feelings about it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good anime but for the longest time, they were concentrating on the "monster of the week" episodes and not on the main story line. They didn't return back to it until almost the 20th ep of a 26-parts-long series. Which I didn't like much. And another thing I rather didn't like was the ending. I will take a happy end any time but this one was rather forced and didn't fit much the direction in which the anime was headed. Too bad :(

On the other hand, the animation style was really good. The author was Kinoshita Sakura who also created Tactics. The story of MLR doesn't reach the level of Tactics but the animation is rather similar. Especially Loki resembles Kantarou very much. And Yamino-kun wore a similar suit like Haruka. The characters resembled each other too. Punyan and Muu-chan. Freyr and Sugino-sama... They were a really nice comic relief. The seiyuus were really good. Especially Heimdall's Paku Romi and Loki's Fuchizaki Yuriko.

So, what I mostly minded was that some things repeated itself way too much. Mayura's "strange mystery!" talk was getting annoying after a while, just like the antics of Freyr and Gullinbursti. It's also too bad that they didn't delve deeper into the Nordic mythology. They just scrapped the surface and that was it. Well, one can't have everything, right?

So, in the end, I don't regret that I've watched it but I don't think that I'll get back to it any time soon. I would give it three stars out of five. Good but not really memorable.
