Frustrating!
Jul. 24th, 2013 01:54 pmYou know what's really frustrating? When you feel like watching or reading a certain thing but you don't know how to explain to people what you're looking for. Because it's not about hard facts, it's about the feeling a certain movie, a book or a show gives you.
I mean, when you look for something with people living on a space ship, you say, I want to read/watch something with people living on a space ship, in space. And people give you what you want, they rec you a movie or a show where people live on a space ship. But when you want to read a book where the girl is protective of the boy, people rec you stuff with a female bodyguard/cop, something like that. But that's NOT what you're looking for! Because it's not just about the gal carrying the weapon, it's about... it's about the vibes said gal gives off.
Like, protective!girl examples? Lydia of Stiles in Teen Wolf. Mako of Raileigh in Pacific Rim. Lois of Kal-El in Man of Steel. Ghanima of Leto in Children of Dune. But in most of these cases, it's not about the girl kicking ass, about being the one who physically protects the guy. It's... *hands* How do you explain this to someone and say, this, THIS is what I'm looking for when it's all about how the girl-guy ship makes you FEEL?!

I never thought about it that way but it's true. The guy is strong and kick-ass but not a butch macho, he allows himself to be protected and saved which goes against everything that's being said to be "manly" these days. I think that's why it's so hard to find.
This picture is basically what I want in a nutshell:
