Back from Prague!
May. 20th, 2012 08:27 pmAnd I'm back from Prague. The weather was beautiful - but terribly hot! In the wing where we had our stand, it was so hot we were literally bathing in our sweat. So not cool, let me tell you, when we had to spend 10 hours there each day. But I had fun with my colleagues - even though I learned more about their private affairs than I wanted to, really, but that's stuff for a locked entry 'cause it made me highly uncomfortable :( - and we sold a LOT of books there. And by a lot, I mean ~A LOT~!
Patricia Briggs and her husband and her friend were AMAZING! I have yet to meet a more generous, kind and down-to-earth author - and I interpreted for a few already. She's... a big Joss Whedon fan, so we squeed about The Avengers like two schoolgirls! And then we talked about her books a lot. I'm so looking forward to more Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega books now that she hinted at so many interesting things happening. I especially liked what she told me about Warren... \o/
Oh, she's also a big fan of Wen Spencer and her Ukiah Oregon series and also of A Brother's Price, my favorite books of Spencer's. She was so flattered when I told her that there were two gay couples that I adored in today's urban fantasy/sci-fi books - Atticus and Ru from Spencer's Dog Warrior and her Warren and Kyle. And then we talked about A Brother's Price, the fantasy book where Spencer switched male and female roles in the society - and she told me that she loved to challenge stereotypes, that's why she wrote, among other things, about a sub!Peter/dom!Honey couple or a character like Ben, a man and a werewolf who had been sexually assaulted and abused and to whom Mercy could relate - to show that bad stuff happens to good and strong people and it doesn't make them weak or incapable.
Isn't she awesome?
