Loved it!

Holmes was so creepy and I loved Watson's reaction to his craziness, the way Watson was all "Oh! Oh, well *shrugs*" - so hilarious. They're quite a pair, aren't they?

I loved that Watson killed the guy, just shot him and disappeared. And Holmes started explaining to Lestrade who the killer probably was - and then he saw Watson and just... stopped and blamed it all on shock because he knew, he KNEW that it was Watson and that Watson did it to save him.

Loved the bickering between Holmes and Lestrade, that was funny.

Loved the gay jokes. "I'm not his date... I'm NOT his DATE!" Ha!

And Mycroft! That was so funny. "You know it upsets mummy." XD

Another keeper! *thumbs up*

I enjoyed it, too. It doesn't hurt that I've loved the guy who played Lestrade for years. Have you ever seen the movie Maurice? He was in that when he was very young.

The chemistry between the two lead actors was very good. I also like the way they show Holmes's thought process. I feel like they're literally connecting the dots.

I should just start considering myself a fan of Steven Moffat. :-)

Lol, I've watched this after reading your review lol! I loved the new Sherlock Holmes. Even though my favorite will remain Jeremy Brett and Robert Downey Jr., Cumberbatch was pretty decent too. A bit of a mix between Dr.House and The Doctor, lol, but I love that combination. And for the first time, I really like the actor/character of Dr.Watson! Yay! Freeman was just brilliant! There were so many LOl moments, the slash undertone rofl. Another show Steven Moffat handled great. Can't wait for the next episode:-)

Nope, haven't seen Maurice. I don't know any of the actors or the writer.

I really loved the scene where Watson just killed the man and didn't feel bad about it at all - there are just way too many shows where characters go all "woe is me" when they have to kill someone, even when they are cops/soldiers - and that Holmes realized it and for once, his need to protect his new friend overruled his need to show off.

Loved the "Holmes, we can't giggle, it's a crime scene!"

I don't like the old Sherlock Holmes movies and series much - god, I hate that stupid hat the writers let him wear! - but the new movie with Robert Downey was awesome, just like this show! I loved Jude Law's Watson, that he didn't let Holmes walk all over him, and this Watson was as close as you can get to that: awe struck, but still his own man. And I loved the creepy humor: "I left my riding crop in the morgue." XD

Oh me gosh, I saw your post and then I had to check it out, and it took Holmes showing up on screen in all his adorably sociopathic glory to reel me in. The guy is perfect for the role

The squeeing me and sister did, you could have heard it from fifty miles away!

This was so awesome! To be fair, I think Moffat is just an amazing writer, so I'm probably rather biased. (Which is why this newest season of Doctor Who is, hand's down, my favourite.) This was a fantastic interpretation of A Study in Scarlet; plus, it totally left out the Mormon-melodramatic-love-story-tragedy-revenge-drama backstory. It even evolved Holmes referring to a problem as a "three pipe problem" to Sherlock's "three Nicotine patch problem," and I just about died laughing. The use of "rache" in this was brilliant because, in the original, it's basically something of a red herring.

Oh, gods, Mycroft, ha! I loled so hard at the "it upsets mummy" line. And I loled at Sherlock's "I pinch Lestrade's pocket when he's being annoying" because, seriously, he would. I loled a lot, honestly. Again, love Moffat's writing. Oh! And the texting that appeared on the screen was brilliant!

I really, really liked this quite a bit (if you can't tell), from the modern-day interpretation to the plot itself to the characters. I like that Moffat is pretty much making Sherlock overtly asexual (detective-work-sexual?) because that's exactly Holmes in the books, although I did love that everyone kept assuming Sherlock and John were together. And this John Watson seems much more fleshed-out, and you can really see why all the Watson and Holmes are friends, since that's one of the great questions of the canon: what does Holmes ever see in Watson that makes them so good friends when Holmes generally has none? This is a much darker, less bumbling version of John Watson. If Sherlock is a self-proclaimed high-functioning sociopath (omg because he totally is!), then I see here that John has some low-level sociopathic tendencies as well.

Even the music was awesome! There were parts with what I think is a harpsichord that was actually vaguely reminiscent to the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie, so as to harken back to the original Victorian era.

Okay, I'm fangirling way too hard here. I'll stop now. :p

Just a little continuity problem that maybe someone could clear up. The previous four victims, when they're shown taking the pills, each have three pills in their vials, though they each only take one, but with Sherlock and the cabby, they each have only one per vial. Explanation?

Hehe, the ep was excellent. "I forgot my riding crop in the morgue!" XD Watson's face just about killed me!

I've never seen anything written by Moffat - that I'm aware of. But this was excellent. Funny and creepy at the same time.

Maybe the cabby thought that one pill in a bottle would make more of an impression on Holmes? He looked like a guy that would go for drama...

I also noticed that the music was quite similar to the movie Sherlock Holmes. It really fit the atmosphere.

I laughed when the reporters all received a text message and the word "Wrong!" started popping up above their heads, like bubbles :P

Late post is late, but I just had to reply to your comment re: having watched a Moffat episode before. He wrote the BAR NONE BEST STANDALONE Doctor Who episode, Blink (nu!Who, season 3 ep 10).

Even if you don't watch Doctor Who, you should totally watch Blink. It is brilliant!

I have to admit that the whole plot of Dr. Who doesn't appeal to me, don't know why. I tried it for the awesome Cpt. Jack, one whole season, but it didn't grip me at all...

:: puts on salesman hat ::

Blink is a standalone episode, from the point-of-view of a person who doesn't know a thing about the Doctor, with a super-creepy villain/premise and really well done time travel/loops. You absolutely do not need to know OR like the Doctor to enjoy this episode for the sheer strength of storytelling alone.

It's only 40 minutes of your life, and I promise you will look at the world around you twice for a little while after watching it. It is a masterpiece of storytelling. I love that episode!

I'll try to look it up :) I've seen a whole season with Christopher Eccleston - the one where they introduce Cpt. Jack - but it just didn't click... :(
