Smallville 101
Jun. 15th, 2010 01:26 pmSo, I started watching SV from the beginning - I've had the DVDs at home for ages now and I finally decided to do something about them :) - and let me say, that seeing Clark and Lex as friends, laughing and having good time... Knowing how their relationship ends, it's heartbreaking. You know, the first time around, when I first watched the show, knowing that Clark and Lex would end up being mortal enemies was one thing. Seeing it actually happen on the show... It's depressing.
Though I have to say that no matter what happens between them, I don't think that they'll be able to forget that they used to be friends, ever. Remember S8, I think it was Requiem when Lex died in the explosion? Clark's expression? No matter what, Clark didn't want to see him dead and he was actually mourning him. I think that if the tables turned and Clark died, Lex wouldn't be able to move on or forget either. They just got too much under each other's skin and I do think that they both still harbor this... tiny spark of hope that their relationship might change, that they might become friends again. And on a shallow note, The Killers' song "Good Night, Travel Well" was amazing there, with Clark at the destroyed car and Oliver in Lex's office.
And it's so strange, seeing the beginning. It was so cheesy and cliché. I think that SV is one of the few shows that moved on and progressed nicely and it's now much better than it used to be, there aren't just mutant freaks of the week anymore. There are actually intriguing villains now and women who literally kick ass - Lana and Martha included! - the women don't just look pretty on the show anymore.
Also, they were all so young, the actors, I mean. And now? Allison Mack is directing eps, Tom Welling is a co-executive producer... Man. I do hope that Tom convinces Michael Rosenbaum to come back for at least an ep in S10, what with S10 being the last season and all. As Tom said: Clark Kent can't become Superman without Lex Luthor...
