katikatAn anthology of short urban fantasy stories by Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Rachel Caine, Karen Chance, P.N. Elrod, Charlaine Harris, Faith Hunter, Caitlin Kittredge and Jenna Maclaine.
"Seeing Eye" by Patricia Briggs - set in her Alpha & Omega series, tells the reader how Tom from the Emerald City Pack met his wife, the blind witch Moira. Not bad, but it was lacking something.
"Last Call" by Jim Butcher - Harry Dresden has to deal with an ancient Goddess - and ends up being blamed for the whole mess. Pretty funny. My 2nd favorite story in the anthology.
"Death Warmed Over" by Rachel Caine - someone's killing witches who can raise the dead. A bit too paranormal-romance-y for my taste.
"Vegas Odds" by Karen Chance - the white witch Lia is attacked in her home and has to track down the culprit. Full of action, but I didn't like the main heroine, she was a bit too full of herself and at the same time too weepy.
"Hecate's Golden Eye" by P.N. Elrod - set in her Vampire Files series. Jack and Escott have to steal a jewel called "Hecate's Eye". Loved it! My favorite story in the anthology.
"Bacon" by Charlaine Harris - set in her Sookie Stackhouse series. Dahlia takes revenge for her husband's death. Boring, unlikable characters, didn't click for me at all. Worst story in the anthology.
"Signatures of the Death" by Faith Hunter - set in her Jane Yellowstone series. The earth witch Molly has to help the sheriff track down a bunch of crazy vampires. Didn't like Molly at all. Didn't like Jane much. I liked the sheriff and of course, he bit the dust. Too bad.
"Ginger" by Caitlin Kittredge - set in her Nocturne City series. The white witch Sunny offers herself as a bait to track down a killer. Hated Sunny. What a wimpy character. Glad that Nocturne City is about her cousin Luna!
"Dark Sins" by Jenna Maclaine - set in her Cin Craven series. Cin and the rest of the Righteous are caught by a dark wizard out for revenge. Interesting, but it smacked too much of paranormal romance.
So, to sum it up: 2 excellent stories, 6 average ones, 1 really bad.
