Torchwood and a SGA fic rec

According to TVGuide.com, BBC has only green lit five hours of Torchwood for the show's 3rd season, adding that there could be more. I mean, huh? Only five hours? Five eps? Executive producer Julie Gardner said: "We've decided to do a five-part mini-series, one big story that will run during one week." I mean, a mini-series is better than nothing at all, right? But still... *sigh* Well, at least they didn't cancel it, right?

SGA fic rec time!
MCSHEP --> "Fading Skies" by Diamond-Raven. After John is badly wounded while serving in Somalia, he and Rodney have to learn how to make a serious physical disability a part of their lives. Words: 60.000+

This fic is a complete AU in which John and Rodney meet during their freshman year at the university. They get together but then John, who joined Air Force to pay for his education, is shipped off to Somalia where his chopper is shot down and he suffers a terrible injury - he becomes a paraplegic. But Rodney refuses to give up on him and they both have to accommodate. It's a really great story with painful details about what exactly does it mean to live with a paraplegic. Some people might argue that John is rather OOC in this story but he's still 25 and he just suffered a horrible injury after all. I like the fic very much!

The more I think about it, the more I really do think 2009 is just going to be a transition year for all three DW shows. They're all making less episodes in 2009. Once Russell T Davies leaves Doctor Who, they'll probably get back on their normal production schedule. *hopes*

Maybe John Barrowman could use the break, too. He seems to be in great demand now. ^____^

I really hope so. But then, it's better to get at least a mini-series, right? I mean, in the US, SG-1 ended but they are now doing 2 movies a year instead of 20 eps, so we get at least something! And it's great that John's career is moving forward. He's a beautiful man and an awesome actor!

Well, that sucks, but at least five episodes is better than nothing.

That's what I'm trying to tell myself. A "half" of a season is better than nothing at all, right?

*nods* It will be hard if they only do five episodes, but I just remind myself that most UK series are usually only eight episodes e.g. Spooks, Hustle so I guess we've been spoilt with Doctor Who and Torchwood being twelve episodes long... Nope, not helping!
