Fic rec: Star Trek (2009)

"A Limb That Has But a Disease" by emiliglia | Kirk/McCoy | H/c, mirrorverse!AU | "Captain," Nurse Chapel says coolly. "You're needed in sickbay; it's Doctor McCoy." | ~4.400 words

Kirk reaches forward, brushing aside the hair that's hanging over McCoy's forehead. "To cut it off, to cure it, easy," Kirk whispers, all too aware of the weight of the knife hanging from his sash. He could be done with McCoy now, could make it look like an assassination attempt and blame the people who had been working with Adams (Kirk knows who they all are - she gave them up eventually), or he could even blame Chapel, the last one to see McCoy alive. But then Kirk would be down two trustworthy medical personnel, and their knowledge about his physiological weaknesses. Even in the face of what they might know about his emotional one, it's too important to risk.

Creepy. And touching at the same time. The mirrorverse is quite a fascinating place for fanfic. How do you write romance when everybody is psycho?

Martin Freeman

According to SpoilerTV, Martin Freeman might land the role of Bilbo in Peter Jackson's film The Hobbit. Awesome for him to get the main part in such a huge blockbuster, but...

What does it mean for Sherlock? If he gets the part, the filming will start in February. And it's a two movie deal. Which means months and months of filming. I know that it was said that if we got another season of Sherlock, it wouldn't be until the fall of 2011. But should Martin Freeman get the part...

Argh. On the one hand, I'm happy for him. On the other hand... SHERLOCK!!!

ETA: "However, Entertainment Weekly says that New Line and MGM have now contacted Freeman with a new filming schedule that would allow him to star in The Hobbit and Sherlock." Link. Awesome!

Merlin

I stumbled across a really good - and a really long! - Merlin fic - which I'm still reading, BTW - and that made me want to see the show again. So, I dug out S1 that I had somewhere on DVDs. My favorite Merlin/Arthur scene? The one in 113, when Merlin's about to go and pay with his life for Arthur's and he goes to say good-bye to him. It's amazing. When Merlin tells Arthur "Don't be a prat" and then just leaves... Man, the actors played that really well!
