30 Days Relationship Challenge #28

Bane & ???, The Dark Knight Rises
After seeing all three Batman movies in one row, I have to say that Bane's my favorite Nolan villain. Tom Hardy has an amazing presence and I actually cheered for him when he started setting his plan in motion - yeah, it surprised me too, I'm not usually a fan of villainous characters. But there was something about Bane, about the way he inspired loyalty in everybody around him that made me all tingly inside. But what made me really fall in love with him was his relationship with...

... Talia al Ghul.
Here was one decent guy in the whole prison who didn't take advantage of a little girl, who protected her and sacrificed himself so that she could run away. And remained forever loyal to her. That was so incredibly beautiful!
And Talia! When she touched Bane's face, so gently, and re-connected his mask... Female heroines usually spout platitudes about not caring what a guy looks like. But here was one woman whom I actually believed when she said it. She didn't care one iota about Bane's looks. All she cared about was what was inside him.
Their past... She escaped the prison only to make her father go back and save Bane. And when her father kicked Bane out of the League of Shadows, she went with him, never forgiving Ras for what he did.
Can you even imagine the depth of their loyalty to each other? It was so incredibly beautiful that it actually made me teary-eyed. Forever sticking with each other and never letting anything or anybody break them apart, willing to die with no fear at all. Every time they said good-bye... they weren't sad, as if they were convinced that where ever they would go - heaven, hell, purgatory, whatever place - they would find each other again there.
As I said before, I don't believe that there was anything sexual in their relationship. It was more like they were one soul in two bodies. They reminded me of Leto and Ghanima from Children of Dune - they were each other's most important person, anybody else - lovers, friends - just didn't really count.
Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard had only one scene together as Bane and Talia - Miranda was a very bland character and it wasn't until you found out she was actually Talia that you realized why - but their chemistry in that moment... When they looked each other in the eye. Wow. Just wow!
I can't believe how smitten I am with this movie. I can't stop thinking about it. I got my hands on the OST and I have this song set on repeat in WinAmp: Gotham's Reckoning, Bane's theme song. When the choir starts chanting Deshi Basara... This is an article about how the chant came to be: link. Wow, it's thousands of people? Wow!
