CWRPS fic rec!

SLASH --> J2: "just one breath (just in case there’s just one left)" by kkgee. Summary: Following a horrific event during filming, Jensen’s life hangs in the balance and Jared discovers what is truly important. Length: 56.000 words.

Story told from Jared's POV. Jensen's side of the story: "Just Because I Want It (Doesn’t Mean I’m Gonna Get It)". Length: 8.500 words.

A good, long, satisfying, canon h/c. With a lot of hurt but more importantly, a ton of comfort, just the way I like it :)

I've had this bookmarked since it was posted and decided I need a bit of h/c to read. I've just finished ch 5 and you're right, it's very well written and there's tons of h/c without it going over the top - with one exception. The one sour note is the way the author writes Sandy - as a self-centered, selfish bitch.

I'm not a rabid Sandy/Jared in RL fan, hell as far as I'm concerned it's J2 forever, but I hate it when authors feel the need to bash the female in order to make way for the boys. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine ever since I first came into fandom with The Fast & the Furious. People who have to vilify the females. And I'm certainly not a huge CMM fan but his characterization is a little rough, too.

There's a metric ton of well written drama in this story already without having to resort to making 2 of Jared's closest friends into total assholes who cheat on him.

OK, mini-rant over. It really is very well written and despite my distaste at how Sandy's been handled (hopefully that's over and done with now) I do want to finish the story.

I agree that the author could have handled Sandy better, that's true. But except for the whole sleeping with Chad thing, I could actually understand Sandy - when she asked Jensen not to intrude on her alone time with Jared or later on, when she thought that Jared was way too involved with Jensen. I mean, she should have been the love of his life and even though she understood Jared's need to take care of Jensen, he really went over the top for being "just" friends with him. The thing was, he was not "just" friends with him which lead to the whole mess with Sandy...

I liked Sandy and I like Genevieve. Truth to be told, I'm not a big fan of Danneel, not because she's Jensen's girlfriend, but she just doesn't click with me. I saw her on NCIS and I was all "yeah, cute, so? *shrug*" :P

I do get that Sandy had the right to be upset that Jared spent so much time with Jensen instead of her. She should have cowboyed up and told Jared that she'd like a little alone time with Jared without going behind his back and requesting that Jensen not be around when she came to visit. I don't think she had a right to be pissy that Jared wouldn't leave the hospital before they even knew whether Jensen would live or die and come pick her up at the airport.

I can see Jared not wanting to knock off early and go home with Sandy and Chad while Jensen stayed on set but yeah, the whole 'I can't leave for an hour or so to have dinner with Sandy and Chad when they've come all this way to see me' was a bit much (even though the author made his feelings justified *G*).

I don't think that Jared wanting to take care of Jensen when he left the hospital was necessarily overboard. Jensen is his best friend and took a bullet to protect Jared. Hell, if nothing else the gratitude/guilt would be enough for me to want to do the same.

Character Sandy has a right to feel pushed aside, I just think it was handled clumsily - taking the easy way of vilifying her rather than putting a little extra effort into making the relationship/breakup between them more equal. Jared admits that he's partly to blame, but he's the sad, misguided, misunderstood one and Sandy is the selfish, betraying bitch.

I've just seen the breakup between them handled so much better.

Genevieve I have nothing against. Frankly I liked Katie's Ruby better. Gen's coy, part bitch/part little misunderstood Ruby kind of grated. Danneel I pretty much feel nothing about - not good not bad, just sort of blank. She doesn't register much. *G*
