Characters in fanfiction and Supernatural spoilery thoughts...

You know, some characters are harder to write than the others. I'm not talking about their mental state but about their speech patterns. Some characters simply talk... "weird". They use "big words" that are hard to grasp for non-English native readers/writers. To these characters I would count Benton Fraser from due South and Ezra Standish from The Magnificent Seven. A non-English native writer can't keep these characters actually "in character" without a massive help from an educated English native beta. And that's rather frustrating... *sigh*

WHERE ARE JENSEN AND JARED?! That's all I can think off. Because so far, all the articles and interviews have always been about Cassidy and Cohan. Kripke is talking mostly about Cassidy and Cohan. I'm NOT INTERESTED in the damnable Cassidy and Cohan! This show is not about them but they get shoved in our faces from all sides. I'm starting to hate them on principle - too much of something and it raises my hackles!

I don't know Ezra but I guess I never really thought about Benton being hard to understand ^^;.

I think that the fic Prolix (http://dira.ficlaundering.com/ds/prolix.html) illustrates it best ;)

Yeah, I can understand that. One of the things that I notice real well, is folks not getting Ellen's "voice" down, or even with J2, them not getting how a Texan guy would talk. I can understand totally how it would be hard to grasp a dialect not your own.

Yes, that's why I'm not even trying to give the character any dialect at all. Better none than a mangled version X(
