Podfic rec: Sherlock

I've been a bit quieter than usual these days. Why? I was enthralled by this podfic:

"The Progress of Sherlock Holmes" by ivyblossom, read by cellardoorpodfic | John/Sherlock, John/Mary | Sherlock is head over heels for John, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him. | 7+hr.

Frown. Can’t help it. Concerned. Why does the limp come back? Thought I’d cured that. Shocked it out of his system. His mind is tenacious and stubborn. Wants to punish John, somehow. Make him suffer. “I see.”

What a lovely fic! So many details! The explanation for why Mary called John "James" in one of Doyle's stories. And the boys very much in love yet unable to actually do something about it. Lovely...

Oh, I didn't know the 'james' thing was canon for the books. How very cool that the author slipped it in here.

Yup, it's one of those "Doyle had a memory like a sieve" kind of thing. I mean, he couldn't remember if John was shot in the leg or in the shoulder or how many wives he actually had, so yeah. In one of the stories he let Mary call John James - that's where his "Hamish" middle name comes from. It's some kind of variety of James so the Sherlockians who couldn't accept that Doyle was lazy came up with the idea that "James" was her pet name for him, derived from his middle name... O.o Yeah. I like this author's explanation much better.

(I also think that John had only one wife, Mary, not three like the Sherlockians think. IMHO, Doyle just couldn't be bothered to keep the dates of his stories straight and all the ones where John does have a wife take place before Reichenbach. But the Sherlockians prefer three wives, two of which never even got a name *hands*)

I knew about the confusion about how many wives he had, I was always kind of horrified by the idea of him having *three*. Where did he find the time and wasn't anyone suspicious that they kept *dying* on him?

I'm with you, Mary is the only canon wife:)

Gosh, someone so needs to write a story where John keeps getting married and Sherlock keeps killing his wives and bringing him back to Baker Street. I wonder if the 3rd wife was the point where John finally got it XD

HAHAHA!!! I am getting some serious Bluebeard!Sherlock vibes from this conversation! Wait, Bluebeard is the guy why killed 12 of his wives and kept their heads in the basement, right?

I think so. Or was he the pirate? IN ANY CASE. Yes, except Sherlock wouldn't be dumb enough to keep their heads in a locked through that he forbid John from entering:D

He definitely would not! He probably would have some 'souvenirs' though, that he might get a thrill out of leaving about the place where John walks past everyday... I mean, the skull and body parts in the fridge are so bizarre no one's going to look into comparably innocuous knick knacks...
