And so many people just don't seem to understand that spelling counts, kids! And so does grammar. It gets brushed off as unimportant - 'as long as the story is good, who cares what the writing is like?' - but if words are mispelt or the grammar is wonky and readers have to spend more time deciphering the writing than appreciating the idea...they just won't bother. I know I don't. The back button is our friend!

The your-you're and there-they're-their thing always bugs me, because no, they really, really aren't interchangeable, in any English-speaking society. Might sound the same, but each means something completely different, and if you use the wrong one it changes the meaning of your sentence completely. In fact, it takes away whatever meaning your sentence might have had.

*G* I could rant about badly written fic all night! LOL

Thanks for all the recs, btw. I've usually read most of them (the gen, anyway, since I don't do slash) but sometimes there's something really meaty I hadn't seen yet.
