Even when MI:1 came out, I remember it looking dated even then. So yeah, I think they were trying to evoke nostalgia for the old series - and then badguy-ed the original hero character, taking away any goodwill those old fans might have had! :) I remember the uproar that caused.

And the flamenco dancing in MI:2 - that was lovely. Where they were staring at each other and everything is slomo and striking colours. I loved his chemistry with Thandie too.
